Verwood Rotary have started collecting the shoeboxes from schools, Hillside being the 1st ones. The collection has been brought forward (normally after half term) due to increasing demand on sorting, packaging, transportation and distribution to children who need the presents the most at Christmas.
The Rotary Shoebox Appeal is a heartwarming initiative, often coordinated by local Rotary Clubs, where people fill shoeboxes with a variety of gifts and essential items for those in need. These boxes are typically tailored for different recipients—such as children, teenagers, or the elderly—and packed with items like toys, toiletries, school supplies, and small treats. The difference it makes is profound and personal; for many recipients, particularly in disadvantaged communities or countries facing hardship, this shoebox may be the only gift they receive. It delivers not just practical necessities but also a powerful message of care, hope, and kindness, showing people they haven’t been forgotten and bringing invaluable joy during festive seasons or difficult times.
