Following their popular public displays and activities at the 2024 and 2025 Rustic Fayres, Verwood Rotary made a donation to the Ancient Technology Centre (ATC) from funds raised at the events. This donation was to support the recent restoration of the ATC’s Saxon Roundhouse.

The club is happy to share that the repairs have now been completed. In recognition of the contribution, the ATC has carved Verwood Rotary’s details onto the main oak support in both English and Saxon.

The Ancient Technology Centre (ATC), located in Cranborne, Dorset, is a unique outdoor educational centre dedicated to “experiential archaeology.” Rather than just displaying artefacts, it brings history to life by having visitors participate in the construction and use of replica ancient buildings using authentic materials and skills. The centre features an impressive range of structures, including an Iron Age roundhouse, a Roman forge, a Saxon workshop, and a large Viking longhouse, many of which were built with the help of thousands of students and volunteers. This hands-on ethos allows visitors to engage directly with the past, learning ancient crafts and technologies, making it a vital resource for schools and public history events.
